Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
The antagonist then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the group reach locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to form the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Fans can look forward to learning which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
